Michael Spelman

Childhood ambition: to be an archaeologist

Now I am: an activist

First job: caddy

Proudest moment: looking back over my shoulder and watching my twin brother being born.

Biggest challenge: trying to find ways of advocating for meaningful institutional change as librarian in a non-managerial position.

Inspiration: collectives

Currently reading: High Maintenance Machine. It’s my favorite webcomic right now.

My favorite book of all time: Moby Dick; or, The Whale (the University of California reprint of the Arion Press folio limited edition)

Most surprising thing about being a librarian: U163.B38 1982 or PZ7.W8185685Cl 2002x

I love being a librarian because: I serve such a broad community. I have the opportunity to interact with an incredibly diverse patron base working at an urban public library.
