childhood ambition: to be both a mathematician and ballerina

first job: writing image descriptions for Global Memory Net

proudest moment: our digital document management system hitting 10,000 files and 50% adoption

biggest challenge: hiring. library programs are increasingly soft on subject analysis and descriptive cataloging – two activities that are critical to keeping systems with ten of thousands of files useful and relevant.

inspiration: seeing individuals in my company moving in the same direction regarding information management

currently reading: Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston

most surprising thing about being a librarian: I work for a company that prides itself on being paperless, but they love their books. I never expected to be involved with the traditional side of library services, but now — in addition to knowledge management services and tools — I manage a physical library and ILS.

I love being a librarian because: there’s always new ways to reach out to and improve the experience for patrons.
