Childhood Ambition: to be a researcher for Jeopardy!

First Job: receptionist for a private commuter train company; first professional library job: youth services librarian

Inspiration: putting the right book or story or information in the hands of the patron at just the moment they need it.

Currently reading: Montmorency & the Assassins (Eleanor Updale), Pride & Prejudice

Most surprising thing about being a librarian: The extent of the misconceptions among the public about what libraries are and what libraries can do. When I talk to people about my job, I feel like a sales rep promoting my product because so many people really do not understand how powerful a library can be.

I love being a librarian because: every day through your patrons, you learn something new about subjects that you might never thought to have looked into.
